So you’ve seen all the great Instagram accounts with tons of followers and you’d like to have that too. No matter what you try, it seems hard to get a large number of followers that don’t just unfollow you. You could, of course, buy fake Instagram followers but they would not be engaged. You really should look for ways to grow your Instagram the right way, organically. Here are the steps on how to increase your Instagram followers.
Determine your Instagram theme
The most successful accounts have a theme of photos and most likely a color scheme to match. If you were a blogger, you might share workstation photos and bright notebooks and pens as an example. There’s room for photos of daily life and inspirational quotes. You want it to look pretty, but you also want engagement.
The color scheme is important too. Instagram is a cohesive collection of images, the random photos belong on SnapChat. You might like pink and white, as an example. It sounds crazy but if you want to really up your Instagram game, you need to be selective with the photos that you post.
Start your Instagram account and upload six to ten images
Before you start following people post some images. You would never post this many at once when you have people following you, but since no one is yet, it’s okay. You want to give potential followers a taste of what they will be seeing in the future from you. This is also making sure you appear legit an and not like a spam account. People get suspicious of accounts that don’t have many photos.

Post every day
Make sure you post one to three images daily and you want them to be posted at least two hours apart. You might have a ton of photos to share but wait and do it in this manner. This will help you grow your account. People seem to think that one to three pictures are the perfect amount of updates. The first way to gain Instagram followers is to actively upload photos. You want to upload as many as you can (up to three times daily) without sacrificing quality. People will find you via hashtags. You might want to take it a step further and use a program that will tell you your best times for engagement and schedule the photos for you.
Like photos in your niche
The next step is to like as many photos in your niche as you can. You want to network with other people in your niche on Insta. Search a hashtag you use and go through the photos. You’ll want to do this for your target group of followers as well. Many people will check out who liked their photo and they may decide to follow you back. The more photos you like the higher the chance this person will go check out your profile. This, however, does depend on your target group and the quality of your content.
Only post your very best photos
You should consider Instagram an art gallery. Do not post all 300 images of the same thing. Choose your best photo and post that. Let IG become a portfolio of your best work. Some might say you are only as good as your worst image. You should also be asking yourself why your target audience would be interested in a photo before posting it. Will it be inspiring? Will it share a tip they can learn from? If you can’t answer why they don’t post it.
Use and follow hashtags
If you’ve ever used Instagram then you’ll obviously understand the importance of hashtags. There are some mixed figures of how many you should use, but you are allowed 30. You don’t want to get marked as spam, but you need to use relevant hashtags for the photo to get discovered. You should also follow hashtags relevant to your Instagram followers and your niche. If your image ends up being a “Top Post” then you should screenshot it and put it in your media kit.
One easy way to use hashtags is to put them in the notepad on your phone and copy/past in the first comment. You might want to break them up into categories that you post often.
If you are building a brand, consider a hashtag just for your brand.

Be active in your niche
Besides just liking photos in your niche, you’ll want to comment on photos as well and start building community. Focus on writing comments that are useful and not just “nice pic.” You want to make friends and work together and potentially share audiences. However, it’s important to be genuine and don’t spam people.
Look at what your competitors are doing
See what people in your niche are doing to grow their following. See what types of photos are popular and replicate them. Don’t outright copy people but getting inspiration is okay. You can use this info to see what you should share and also how different you can be with your own account.
Follow everyone that follows you (except spammy accounts)
This is a rule to follow. If you want love, give love. If someone likes your photos go follow them and kick it up a notch and go like some photos too. Instagram is a two-way street so you should be interacting with people that are following you and liking and commenting on your photos. You want engagement and this is how you get it.
Comment often on your follower’s images
You’ll want to visit followers accounts now and then and like some photos and comment. It doesn’t hurt to do this once in a while if you have something nice to say. People get into Instagram to get love on their photos so make sure you do that.
One important thing that you’ll need to realize is that growing a following is going to take some time. It is very rare to blow up overnight. But if you stick to these tips they will help increase your Instagram followers. It will be helpful to set and reach your Instagram goals.
